My tattoo symbolizes religion, wisdom, strength, knowledge and peace.

My actual reason to get inked was to hide my scar which is on my right arm. The lotus flower has various meanings with each one based on a different number of factors. Lotus mainly portrays religion. It has varied colors, shapes(open, closed, partially open) that have specific meanings to it. I relate my tattoo to the Hindu and Buddha religion.

In the Hindu religion, lotus particularly means the Padma. The Padma has unique meanings to the followers of the Hindu religion associated with a number of their deities, especially Vishnu and Brahma. It is traditionally shown to have a large number of petals as mentioned in the Hindu mythology. The lotus in its context signifies divine beauty and purity, while unfolding of its leaves signifies the expanding of the souls and spiritual awakening.

The lotus is the symbol on which most of the iconography is based. The Padma bears a strong tie with the Sahasrara specifically and the Chakras.

Also, I would like to give you few insights on what lotus means in Buddhism. Buddhism, as Hinduism, also has a strong connection with lotus. It symbolizes the lotus to have many layers that are combined with one another to create a complex imagery of really deep meaning. It represents the purity of the body, mind, and spirit. In Buddhist art, it is often depicted with eight petals symbolizing the Eightfold path, a core tenet of the Buddhist religion.
